A St. Elmo man has been sentenced to 3-1/2 years in prison for his involvement in a fatal car crash.
56-year-old Joseph Beshel was one of three drivers involved in a crash in May of 2024 east of Altamont along US Route 40. Illinois State Police reported a truck driven by Beshel was traveling south on 450th Street, while a SUV driven by an Altamont man and a van driven by an Altamont woman were traveling on Route 40. Police say all three vehicles collided at the intersection of 450th Street and Route 40. The woman involved in the collision died of injuries she received.
Beshel was charged with driving on a revoked license due to a previous DUI offense. He was charged with DUI in Fayette County for a separate offense in 2017 and was sentenced to seven years in prison.
