Effingham Unit #40 board members Monday approved the 2026-2027 school year. The first day for student attendance will be August 12 with teachers reporting the two days prior to that.
As for this school year, EHS semester exams will be May 15 and May 18 with teacher institute on May 19.
The Board approved a memorandum of understanding with the Effingham Classroom Teachers Association, ending “B” team sports. Superintendent Andy Johnson, a big proponent of “B” team sports at the start, said he had to be convinced that this was a good move, but now agrees with the move.
The Board approved the purchase of 270 seats from a theatre in Salem for $15,000 to replace the junior high study hall seats that date from the 1960s. The seats being purchased are five years old.
Board members approved a full-year agribusiness course to begin at the high school next year, and approved the 10 year health and life safety plan for the district.
The Board was meeting in closed session later Monday night to decide on a number of personnel moves for next school year.
