The Effingham City Plan Commission Tuesday voted to recommend a text amendment to the City Zoning Ordinance regulating vacation or short-term rental structures.

The change would permit four such structures in R zones and two in non-urban zones. No such properties would be permitted in R-1 or R-2 properties, though. The properties would be reviewed by the Plan Commission on a case-by-case basis.

The City Council will have the final say on the text amendment.

Also Tuesday, the Plan Commission approved a site plan for 7Brew, a coffee shop to be located at 1313 North Keller Drive. The building that housed The Local will be torn down and replaced with two smaller buildings for 7Brew.

The Commission recommended the Council approve Yager Subdivision, just south of Mid America Motorworks along North US 45, and also recommended the Council approve Niemerg OBW Commercial Subdivision at Avenue of Mid America and Outer Belt West, north of Effingham Performance Center.
