Altamont city council members Monday heard more from Schuetzenfest Committee members about plans for this year’s celebration if it is relocated from the County Fairgrounds to downtown Altamont.
Initial plans are to close off Adams Street in front of Luke’s and the Whistlestop. It would be a one-day Saturday event. Council members had questions about crowd control, security and insurance. Another consideration is wristband use for those wanting to consume liquor.
A decision on whether to relocate the celebration should be reached in the next couple of meetings.
The Council is once again facing the need for a replacement member, after Tayler Polk shared that he will be resigning his commissioner’s seat, effective March 23. Letters of interest should be sent to City Clerk Sarah Stephen by 5pm on April 10. The goal is to make an appointment of Polk’s replacement on April 13.
Council members approved the Altamont VFW Post #7676 Poppy Day on May 8 with a May 15 rain date. A TIF development agreement with Splechter Enterprises was tabled for further review. An ordinance amending the solar avoided cost rate from .0391 to .072 was approved. A one year renewal of an employee assistance program with Sarah Bush Lincoln Health Center was approved.
The Council discussed an ordinance regulating mobile food service establishments. The ordinance will cover the entire community.
