 Altamont Board Approves Curriculum Purchases, Acts on Several Personnel Moves

Altamont school board members Monday approved recommendations of the Curriculum Committee including purchases for high school Biology, high school Earth Science, Grades K-2 Phonics, and Weight Training. The Board also approved handbook updates including athletics and student handbooks, and also approved the school calendar for 2026-27 with the first day of student attendance to be Tuesday, August 18.

The Board heard from maintenance director Tayler Polk on the status of ongoing projects, recent building repairs, grade school addition utilities, and asbestos training. Also, Superintendent Casey Adam gave an update on the sale of bonds to finance building improvements and on concrete bids.

In personnel moves, the Altamont board accepted resignations from District Librarian Sue Poe, JV volleyball coach Shelby Sasse, varsity volleyball coach Branden Wright, 7th grade volleyball coach Elizabeth Anderson, junior high softball coach Megan Burrus, and junior high baseball coach Tim Miller who will remain a volunteer coach. Those hired were Rachel Hammer as 7th grade basketball coach, Amy Dial as 8th grade girls basketball coach, Kaleb Hankins as junior high baseball coach, Angela Tkachuk as grade school music teacher, Nicole LeCrone as grade school art teacher, Allison Schmidt as junior high ELA teacher, and Jayme Mefford as a Pre-K teacher. The Board accepted an irrevocable letter of retirement from Lori Grimsley at the end of the 2028-29 school year.

Board members also approved an early graduation request for December 2026, authorized Superintendent Casey Adam to begin work on the tentative budget for the coming school year, approved an overnight trip request for the Student Council to attend the state convention, and approved a leave of absence request for an employee.

The Board also heard from Mrs. Bauer and four senior students who presented about the academic challenge competition through Lake Land College. Altamont placed third in their division.
