 Altamont School Officials Hold Strategic Planning Session

Altamont school officials met Saturday for a strategic planning meeting.

Mark Holland led a transportation update, including a fleet update and five-year rotation discussion. For next year, the district is looking at one new van and one new activity bus.

Austin Harvey updated the Board on technology. Harvey led IT upgrade plans for network switches, Chromebooks, monitors, Cybersecurity and PCs.

Katie Lurkins and Jeni Aldrich discussed extra-curricular activities including the coaching staff, HUDL stats, handbook revisions, ACHS gym updates, track planning, officials pay, table pay, NTC Tournament report and Sports Boosters updates.

Altamont Community High School Principal Peggy Bueker shared information on teacher retention, handbook changes, curriculum, grading scales and practices, class sizes, outside opportunities for ACHS students, and long-term building planning.

Altamont Grade School principal Kris Biggs discussed teacher assignments for the coming school year, vacancies, standards based grading, building needs, staffing needs, school improvement planning ideas for next year, mentor program and Dyslexia screening.

Tayler Polk discussed maintenance and facility updates including projects through the end of the year and summer work, areas to improve across campuses, and long-term facilities planning.

Superintendent Casey Adam reviewed capital projects, state news pertaining to the Governor’s budget address, curriculum committee final recommendations, parking fees, and county-wide emergency planning.
