With about a month remaining until the Illinois primary election, early voting is moving ahead.
Effingham County Clerk and Election Authority Michelle Kollmann told the Effingham County Board that as of Tuesday there had been 135 early voters who have cast a ballot.
In other business, the Board approved a $10,000 disbursement to Effingham County Public Transportation to provide free rides for senior, disabled and veteran county residents during 2026, provided up to $4,500 for an updated code of ordinances, and approved modification of a Board-approved Hour House Opioid request.
The Board approved a bid of just over $19,000 for control systems in the Government Center, approved the use of the Historic Courtyard downtown for an event and signage for the Downtown Effingham Business Group’s Bunny Bash on March 28 and for Halloween activities on October 24.
Board members voted to expand the use of bereavement leave for County employees for more individuals and when the leave can be used.
Board Vice-Chairman David Campbell reminded that they will again be seeking grant funds that could be loaned to new or expanding businesses.
