Effingham City Police released details Thursday on the collision involving a car and a train car at the Effingham Equity location on Temple Avenue in Effingham.

Police report the incident occurred at 7:07pm west of the intersection of Temple and 4th Street. A vehicle driven by 30-year-old Lauran Mathis of Effingham struck a cargo rail car owned by the Equity. Employees from the Equity were operating a track mobile to push multiple rail cars northbound across Temple at a slow speed on the spur track owned by the Equity when the crash occurred.

Mathis suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported by Rural Med EMS to HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital.

Mathis was cited for disobeying a traffic control device.
