During the respiratory illness season, Hospital Sisters Health System (HSHS) has historically implemented visitor guidelines across their Illinois and Wisconsin hospitals as a precautionary measure for the safety of colleagues, patients and visitors. As of Dec. 22, these temporary guidelines include:

  • Only two people should visit a patient at any one time.
  • People should not visit patients if they:
  • Have a cold or any flu-like symptoms including, fever or chills, sore throat, body or muscle aches, headache, cough or runny nose
  • Are under 18 years of age

Adjustments for specific situations such as end-of-life or other circumstances will be taken in consideration.

This decision is in alignment with recommendations put forth by the Illinois Department of Public Health due to an increase in respiratory illnesses like influenza, RSV and COVID-19.

HSHS encourages people practice good hand hygiene by washing hands frequently, covering their mouth when coughing or sneezing and getting all recommended vaccinations.
