North Clay school board members Wednesday approved the district’s fiscal year tax levy.

The Board decided on a 55% tax levy, which resulted in an estimated tax rate for the district of 3.08 for next year.

North Clay Superintendent Keith Lewis explained that the district has proposed an 81.65% tentative tax levy increase. The district has seen the tax rate drop 22% since 2015, from 3.85 to 2.99.

Much of the levy increase is due to the new solar farm in Clay County. The EAV in the school district is estimated to jump from $89 million to $125 million.

Also Wednesday, the North Clay board approved Stephanie Hemphill as volunteer assistant high school cheer coach, and hired Malorie Craig as grade volleyball coach for the school year. Katrina VanDyke and Jennifer Iffert were each granted one unpaid day of leave, and Kelly Carruthers was approved as a sub bus driver.
