County Board Approves Contract w/Circuit Clerk Staff

Effingham County Board members Monday approved a three-year contract with circuit clerk employees.

The agreement with FOP members include raises of 3%, 3.5%, and 3.5%. It also includes a starting salary of $17/hour for new hires.

Board member Mike Buzzard voted No on the agreement, and board member Chris Keller was not present for the meeting.

There was discussion in closed session on a new contract for staff of the county sheriff’s office, but no action, although Sheriff Paul Kuhns feels an agreement is in place.

The Board approved an allocation of $12,500 in hotel/motel funding to Lake Sara Forever for the beach expansion project. Lake Sara Forever board member Christo Schultz said the allocation moves them halfway to the goal for the project. Schultz is hopeful of an April 15th completion date for the project.

The Board approved the fiscal year employee handbook; approved the meeting schedules for the various board committees; named Christopher Probst and Timothy Jansen as trustees of the Island Grove Drainage District; and named Deb Murbarger to another term on the Ambulance Oversight Committee.

Board members approved audit reports; awarded to the lowest responsible bidder for motor fuel tax materials; approved a drafting request for a proposal for control systems in the County Government Center; approved use of the former coroner’s office on the third floor of the County Office Building by the highway department and the airport commission. Also approved was a membership renewal with the Effingham County Chamber of Commerce; approved a $15,000 disbursement to Effingham County Senior Services; and approved an amended salary schedule ordinance for the new fiscal year.

The Board cancelled insurance on a vehicle no longer being used by Effingham County Public Transportation. County Treasurer Deb Ruholl reminded that the county tax sale is set for Thursday. Ruholl said any tax bills not paid by 4pm Wednesday will be included in the tax sale.
