Effingham County deputies served an arrest warrant on a Teutopolis resident Friday afternoon. 34-year-old Jeffery R. Esker was arrested as a result of alleged criminal offenses reported within the county and investigated by the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office.
The warrant charges Esker with two counts of Predatory Criminal Sexual Assault of a Child, the victim being under 13 years of age, both classified as Class X felonies.
The Effingham County Sheriff’s Office was assisted in this investigation by the Effingham County State’s Attorney’s Office. The investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges may be filed as it progresses.
Esker was taken into custody and is being held in Effingham County Jail after pretrial detention was granted. His next court appearance is scheduled for Thursday.
