The Effingham Unit 40 Board of Education acted on several personnel matters at a special meeting Wednesday evening.

The hirings included Mason Hull as a junior high PE and Health teacher, as well as junior high head baseball coach and 8th grade boys basketball coach. The hirings are effective with the 2026-27 school year, as Hull will succeed longtime coach Rod Wiethop.

Other hirings Wednesday: Ann Grasher as junior high B-Team volleyball coach for this school year, Jada Duncan as LBS1 Special Ed teacher at the junior high school as of January, and Victoria Wilson as swing shift custodian at the Early Learning Center and at South Side School.

The Board accepted the retirement of Deb Blankenship as a secretary at the Early Learning Center as of June.

Two resignations were accepted, from Kaleb Blake as high school assistant soccer coach and from Erika McSparran as a health care supervisor.
