Hunters in Illinois harvested a preliminary total of 51,409 deer during the first weekend of the Illinois firearm deer season between November 21 and 23. Comparatively, hunters took 54,661 and 53,348 deer during the first firearm weekends in 2024 and 2023.
699 deer were taken during the first weekend in Effingham County, compared to 763 in 2024 and 696 in 2023.
In other area counties, there were:
–988 deer taken in Clay County, compared to 1,118 in 2024 and 1,007 in 2023
–411 deer taken in Coles County, compared to 523 in 2024 and 415 in 2023
–526 deer taken in Cumberland County, compared to 575 in 2024 and 511 in 2023
–1,275 deer taken in Fayette County, compared to 1,298 in 2024 and 1,166 in 2023
–787 deer taken in Jasper County, compared to 851 in 2024 and 784 in 2023
–838 deer taken in Shelby County, compared to 921 in 2024 and 895 in 2023
Illinois’ seven-day firearm deer season will conclude December 4-7.
