Jason Rippetoe is resigning as a commissioner of the Altamont City Council.

Rippetoe said the growth of his business led to his decision to resign, which is effective December 7.

Altamont City Clerk Sarah Stephen said letters of interest in the position will be accepted until 5pm on December 5. Council members plan to open the letters in closed session on December 8 and hope to make a decision on Rippetoe’s successor at that meeting.

During regular business at this week’s meeting, the Altamont Council voted to amend electric rates. The base rate increases two dollars per month, and will increase for the next four years. The increase will first appear on the January billing.

The Council awarded a contract regarding demolition of the former Dairy Bar building at 600 South Main Street. H&K Excavating of Effingham was awarded the work for $24,000. The building will be removed by December 31.

Council members also approved an $8,000 TIF payment to the Schultz Farm Partnership for a house that had been located in Altamont’s commercial district.
