The Dieterich junior high and high school cross country teams were on hand Monday night for a special recognition from the Dieterich school board.

The teams are under the leadership of head coach Ryan Wohltman and assistant coach Rebecca Repking. There were several state qualifiers this season in both IESA and IHSA. Trevor Crutcher finished 39th at the IHSA meet as an individual At the IESA state meet, Jenna Ambuehl and Jenna Bohnhoff participated as individuals, and the junior high boys team qualified to compete and placed 18th.

The Board reviewed the tentative property tax levy, which is very similar to those of the past. The expectation is an increase in EAV, which would result in a lower tax rate.

Dieterich Elementary earned the designation “exemplary” from the Illinois State Board of Education, which is a Top 10 finish, while Dieterich Junior-Senior High School earned the designation of “commendable”, which indicates no underperforming groups.

The Board approved the purchase of new scoreboards for the elementary/junior high gym, along with shot clocks and locker room clocks for just over $29,000. The Dieterich Sportsbackers will assist with the cost of the purchase.

During the principal’s report, both junior-senior high school principal Mike McCollum and elementary principal Josh Benefiel reported on contact rates for parent-teacher conferences. The elementary contact rate was 98%, while the junior-senior rate was 21%.

The Board learned that, after several years’ absence, the Graphic Arts class will be bringing back the school newspaper.

Alexis Ordner was approved as a student teacher for Spring semester at the high school in the Social Studies department.

The Board continued the discussion of a building project that would include a new roof over a portion of the building, solar panels, tuckpointing, and a covered walkway to the vocational building. A final vote is expected at the December meeting.

Board members also hear about American Education Week, November 17-21. School board members Monday were presented with certificates of appreciation for their service to the school district.
