The Effingham Public Library Board is expecting to pay off the mortgage on the library building later this month.

Library Director Amanda McKay said there is a $625,000 balance on the building compared to the purchase cost more than 10 years ago. The final payment will likely take place at the Board’s meeting on November 17.

Meanwhile, the Board is weighing two liability insurance options. One is the same as what is utilized by the City for its coverage, while the other focuses more on insurance used by libraries.

The Board also finalized its agreement with the City on use of the library as a storm shelter, and amended the meeting room agreement for when the library is being used as a storm shelter.

Library board members also approved the fiscal year levy totaling $1,223,858. That’s a 2.9% increase…about $34,000. The library levy will then become a part of the total city levy for the coming fiscal year.
