Effingham resident Bradley Bennett has been found not guilty by reason of insanity for aggravated robbery.

The 48-year-old Bennett was arrested in 2023 for a robbery at 5th/3rd Bank in Effingham. Bennett allegedly entered the bank and approached a teller with a note demanding money and stating he was armed.

Both forensic psychiatrists utilized in the case, one for the defense and one for the prosecution, agreed on Bennett’s condition. Judge Bryan Kibler ordered Bennett to work with the Illinois Department of Human Services on a plan including further mental health treatment.

Bennett will be back in court the morning of December 18th for a bench trial hearing.
