Two drivers were injured when their vehicles collided just before 8am Friday.

The Effingham County Sheriff’s Office said the crash happened on 900th Avenue, about a half-mile west of 400th Street.

One driver, 35-year-old Adrian Mitchell of St. Elmo, told deputies she reached down to pick up an item and lost sight of the roadway. When she looked up, the westbound Mitchell said she was in the eastbound lane of traffic.

The other driver, 52-year-old Lori Klanke of Altamont, swerved to avoid the collision, but Mitchell’s vehicle struck the Mitchell vehicle. Mitchell was cited for improper lane usage.

Both Mitchell and Klanke were injured and were taken by Rural Med EMS to HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital for treatment.
