Eastern Illinois University is facing a reduction in staff.
EIU President Jay Gatrell announced in an email Tuesday morning the elimination of 17 staff positions and the non-renewal of 23 annually contracted instructors and four academic support professionals. According to Gatrell, 19 positions that are vacant or soon to be vacant will not be re-staffed, according to Gatrell.
Gatrell wrote that the decision was due to revenue declines from external factors, which include the loss of federal funding of grants and contracts that totaled more than $1 million in lost revenue.
