 Relay for Life of Effingham County Raises $77,642 in Battle Against Cancer

The American Cancer Society celebrated the end of another successful Relay For Life of Effingham County season last week, announcing that participants and supporters raised $77,642 to help fund the Society’s mission to end cancer as we know it, for everyone.

The event recognized the dedication of local teams, individuals, and community partners who worked tirelessly throughout the season to raise critical funds and awareness.

Among the highlights:

  • Co-Leads Becky Kinman and Ron Mietzner and their teams Bosom Buddies and The Tumornators – Cindy’s Team were honored with Team of Excellence Awards raising over $38,000 and $20,600 respectively.
  • Five individuals earned All Star Relayer status by raising more than $2,500: Becky Kinman, Ron Mietzner, Teresa Haywood, Belinda Ernst, and Brigette Leftwich.
  • Three participants were recognized as Grand Club Fundraisers for raising more than $1,000: Sheila Myers, Alice Zumbahlen, and Linda Brock.

“Relay For Life is a celebration of a community’s commitment to fighting cancer,” said Stephanie Norris, Sr. Development Manage with the American Cancer Society. “The dedication shown by Effingham County teams and volunteers ensures that we can continue providing vital support for patients, fund groundbreaking research, and create hope for a world without cancer.”

The American Cancer Society Relay For Life movement is the world’s largest peer-to-peer fundraising event dedicated to saving lives from cancer. Events take place in more than 2,500 communities worldwide, raising funds to improve the lives of cancer patients and their families.
