 Jobless Rates On a Level w/One Year Earlier

The August unemployment rate in Illinois declined by about 10,000, and the rate dropped from 5.3% in August 2024 to 4.7% in August 2025.

The Effingham County jobless rate for August 2025 remained unchanged at 3.8%. As far as other area counties, here are the numbers:

Clay–5.3%, up from 5.2%

Fayette–5%, up from 4.8%

Jasper–3.8%, up from 3.7%

Cumberland–3.6%, unchanged from one year earlier

Coles–4.4%, unchanged from one year earlier

Shelby–4.1%, up from 3.9% one year earlier

Total nonfarm employment decreased by 75 jobs in the Effingham area in August.
