The quality of water in Altamont is getting better.
Andy Curry of Curry and Associates Engineers praised members of the Altamont water department for the proactive steps they’ve taken to address the water quality. Curry said they are increasing the carbon feed to improve the water. He said that communities with reservoirs are having more problems, and recommended installing aerators in the reservoirs to improve things.
Also Monday, the Altamont council spent $7,500 to purchase .54 acres of property from Kull Family Farms. The land will be used for a dog park, if a grant is obtained for the project. The Council also discussed how to use land at 508 East Cumberland Road where a coffee truck is located. The Council will discuss how to use the property, but voted against leaving the property in rock and will consider asphalt or concrete for the surface. The Council did vote to approve Zain Parker to fill a vacancy on the Zoning Board.
The Altamont Council approved a private development contract for Lawrence Holste and Holste Insurance for $10,000 in TIF dollars for property along 3rd Street, and authorized the sale of property at 703 Field Street to Alex Wendling for $7,500.
Altamont council members also approved an IEPA application from the eastbound I-70 rest area to the south waste water treatment with any discharge being handled by the City. The Council also paid for water main replacement for just over $61,000, and paid $38,000 to Larry Heuerman Trucking for street oiling.
