Members of the Effingham County Board’s Tax and Finance Committee agreed Thursday to send a recommendation to the full Board for $15,000 in funding for the Effingham Regional Growth Alliance.
The Alliance’s Chairman Courtney Yockey shared about the accomplishments of the organization during the past year. Yockey also shared that County Board Chairman Josh Douthit is an ex-officio member of the Alliance Board.
Committee members also agreed to contribute $1,000 toward the Ham City Fall Fest coming up Saturday, October 4th in downtown Effingham. One of the event organizers, Riley Pruemer, said that the event will include a downtown 5K run and a brunch to follow, as well as a variety of family friendly activities. There was discussion over whether the event would generate overnight stays; “heads in beds” as the phrase goes, and Pruemer said he has marketed the event to a 50-mile of the county.
That led to a discussion about how to allocate hotel/motel tax revenue. The decision was to allocate 85% of available revenue to be disbursed.
Douthit also shared that the employee health insurance stipend will only increase by 4% for the coming year. He shared that the County can cover the increase, so there will be no cost to employees.
