The state’s Department of Juvenile Justice is opening the doors to a new youth center in Lincoln.

It’s part of a plan to use smaller regional facilities to rehabilitate young adults in the state’s care.

Capitol News Illinois reports the Monarch Youth Center was designed to focus on learning, growth and healing.

There are mental health services and outdoor spaces to help residents stay engaged.

An education wing has classrooms for continuing high school or getting career training in construction or culinary arts.

The center is for boys only and can house up to thirty people. Kids will move in over the next several weeks.
