A 19-year-old Effingham man was injured, but declined a trip to the hospital following a crash near Salem Monday afternoon.
Illinois State Police report Levi Bryant was having tire issues, which caused the car to go off the left side of the roadway and strike a concrete barrier. The crash happened just before 4:30pm on I-57 southbound at the IC railroad bridge about three miles north of Salem.
An Air Evac helicopter was originally called, but was cancelled when Bryant declined any hospital treatment.
Traffic on southbound I-57 was down to a single lane on the shoulder until the crash scene was cleared. Both Salem Fire Protection District firefighters and Marion County Sheriff’s deputies assisted.
