The Effingham City Council has approved allocations of $50,000 and $250,000 in hotel/motel tax funds for improvements at Thelma Keller Convention Center.
The $50,000 allocation is for carpeting in the Convention Center, while the $250,000 will pay for a new sound system and chairs.
If the convention center doesn’t continue operating for at least the next 10 years, the items would return to the City’s ownership.
The vote was 4-1, with Commissioner Jake Niebrugge voting No.
The Council also approved a plat for property at St. Anthony and Main that is to be the site of a county morgue…approved a re-plat of property at Banker and Douglas for a commercial business…okayed a replat of two lots in Hidden Hills Subdivision…and approved a replat of two lots at 2nd and Section.
Council members approved an agreement with Reach Strategies and AmerenIllinois for locating an electric vehicle charging station.
The Council heard from City Police Chief Kurt Davis that Effingham will host another Community Night Out event. The opportunity for the public to see and interact with emergency services personnel and vehicles will take place on September 18th at Evergreen Hollow Park.
