 Unemployment Rates Improve in July in Area Counties, Statewide

Unemployment rates were down for the second month in a row in area counties.

Effingham County’s jobless in July was at 3.5%, down from 4.2% one year earlier. Total nonfarm payroll employment was unchanged from a year earlier at 42,725.

As far as area counties, Clay County was at 5.4%, down from 6.2%…Fayette County was 4.7%, down from 5.5%…Jasper County was at 3.7%, down from 4.3%…Cumberland County was at 3.5%, down from 4.0%…and Shelby County was at 4.0% in July, down from 4.6%.

Illinois’ unemployment rate for July was at 4.8%, down from 5.7% one year earlier.
