(A BRIGHT AND AIRY EXPANSION GREETS CHILDREN VISITING EFFINGHAM PUBLIC LIBRARY)

The Suzette Brumleve Memorial Effingham Public Library held a celebration Friday morning.

First, the library marked the completion of an expanded children’s area on the second floor. The glass wall on the south end of the children’s area was moved to the south, making room for more activities for children.

Second, the library is only a couple of weeks away from its 10th year of operation in the former 5th/3rd Bank building on 3rd Street downtown, after its move from the former Helen Matthes Library building on Market Avenue.

Third, the occasion marked the 142nd anniversary of a public library in Effingham.

Mayor Mike Schutzbach and other City and library officials were on hand along with a representative of local congressman Mike Bost, and a number of local library patrons.

Library Director Amanda McKay reminds there will be more celebrating later this year when the library pays off its bond that financed the conversion of the former bank into a library.
