Charges have been filed against a Teutopolis man in connection with an incident Saturday. The standoff ended without injuries.
Effingham County State’s Attorney Aaron Jones said the suspect is 37-year-old Jon M. Dust. Jones said Dust is charged with criminal trespass to a residence.
Effingham County Sheriff Paul Kuhns said authorities became aware of an incident where a neighbor began kicking on the door of a neighbor in the 200 block of Smith Street. The suspect kicked open the door, after the occupants of the residence had left the premises. The suspect then barricaded himself inside the residence.
The Sheriff indicated that the suspect experienced an “emotional crisis” Friday night, and later learned that he had weapons at his residence. Authorities eventually were able to get the suspect to surrender and he was taken into custody.
The Effingham County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Illinois State Police and the Effingham City Police Department. Kuhns said he was grateful the agencies were able to work together to bring a safe ending to the event.
Dust is next due in court on October 2nd.
