The National Weather Service – Lincoln Office has issued a Heat Advisory for most of Central Illinois, including the counties of Christian, Moultrie, Douglas, Coles, Shelby, Cumberland, Effingham, Jasper, and Clay (shaded in the map). This includes the cities of Greenup, Newton, Charleston, Flora, Effingham, Mattoon, Taylorville, and Shelbyville.
The Heat Advisory is in effect from Saturday at Noon until Sunday at 8:00 p.m.
Heat index values of 100 to 110 are expected, with hot temperatures and high humidity possibly causing heat illnesses.
The public is being reminded to drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors.
