Montrose Fire Protection District and Greenup Fire and Ambulance responded to a multiple-vehicle accident with injuries on eastbound Interstate 70 at mile marker 110. The incident occurred around 5:30 p.m. on Thursday afternoon, with lanes completely blocked.
An out-of-state paramedic travelling through the area, confirmed to officials that all occupants had exited their vehicles on their own, and also assessed injuries. The Marion County Sheriff was also passing by and assisted with patients and traffic control.
Ahead of this scene was the initial crash that caused traffic to stop. Greenup Fire handled that call with no one requiring treatment for injuries.
Multiple ambulances had been dispatched to both locations, with Rural Med from Effingham and Clark County Ambulance assisting. Also responding were the Illinois State Police, Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department, and Illinois Department of Transportation.
