 Area Competitors Place At State Fair

SPRINGFIELD – Area competitors did well at the Illinois State Fair in Springfield.

Susie Wurl of Altamont claimed seven first place finishes, four seconds, three thirds, one fourth and a fifth.

Sara Sasse of Dieterich had nine places while Kathleen Weber of Effingham finished with a first and second.

Altamont’s Kurt Becker will bring home three first place ribbons, five seconds, two thirds, six fourths and a fifth.

Altamont’s Kim Tarrant placed in seven events with two firsts, a second, a third, a fourth and two fifths and Scott Beal took two firsts and a second.

Following are how each area entrant placed:

Susie Wurl – First Place in Machine appliqued sweatshirt. Decorated sweatshirt, Bib, Cloth toy not a doll or animal, Hat or bonnet, Appliqued towel, Machine embroidered home decoration and Any stitched holiday decoration except Christmas. Second Place in Hat or bonnet, Holiday picture, Any other stitched item not already listed and Miscellaneous (not already listed). Third Place in Miscellaneous already listed, Infant or child sweater and Machine embroidered towel. Fourth Place in Afghan crocheted in more than one piece and Fifth Place in Purse every day.

Kurt Becker – First Place in Dairy jars, Glass pressed pattern clear and Mesh or beaded purse. Second Place in Bride basket, Illinois State Fair souvenirs, Sugar & Creamer set, Vinegar cruets and Water sets, pitcher and two tumblers. Third Place in Pressed glass colored, Ink well set and Majolica. Fourth Place in Children’s books, Glass cut, Handpainted China dishes, Milk glass, Stamps and Toys, one toy or small set. Fifth place in Political buttons/advertising buttons.

Sarah Sasse – First Place in Skirt and blouse top, Second Place in Casual one or two pieces, Party/Sunday clothes, Cloth toy, not doll or animal, Toiddler’s outfit and Wardrobe sewn. Third Place in Tote and Sportswear and Fourth Place in Purse every day.

Kim Tarrant – First Place in Glass cut and Diamond Dot Painting, Second Place in Glass pressed colored. Third Place in Water sets, pitcher and two tumblers. Fourth Place in Sugar and Creamer set and Fifth Place in Glass Pressed Clear and Vinegar cruets.

Scott Beal – First Place in Berry Set and Glass pressed colored. Second Place in Small World’s Fair souvenir, items prior to 1945.

Kathleen Weber – First Place in Adult sweater knitted, any other and Second Place in Garment other than sweater knitted or crocheted.
