Those seeking a win in the 2026 election can begin circulating petitions today. Candidates in the March 17, 2026 Primary Election will be running for their party’s nomination.

Officials at the Effingham County Clerk’s office said they have petition packets available. The office is located on the second floor of the Effingham County Office Building downtown at Jefferson and 4th.

Offices up for election at the local level are County Clerk, Sheriff, County Treasurer and Supervisor of Assessments. Four County Board seats are up for grabs including Districts A, B, E and H. Also, precinct committee people will be elected in the primary. Those offices are filled at the primary election in March so they can campaign for the other candidates of their party in the November election.

The filing period for the election will be October 27th to November 3rd in the County Clerk’s office. The office will remain open until 5pm on the last day of filing on November 3rd; otherwise, the clerk’s office is open 8am to 4pm weekdays.
