Summit Township officials discussed road maintenance at the Effingham Water Authority meeting this month.

Gary Morgan spoke to the Water Authority board to discuss the possibility of the township maintaining Water Authority roads. Water Authority Chairman Rob Brown said he would contact Township Supervisor John Perry to gauge the township’s interest.

Jane Montello asked the Board why the Water Authority minutes are not posted on the website. Lake Superintendent Michael Dirks said the minutes are on the website but, for some reason, not everyone can access them. Dirks said he will look into the situation.

Brown reported that the City of Effingham has been cleaning out by the dam and have made at least one valve operational in case they are needed. He mentioned that, if necessary, the Water Authority could lower the lake with the valves. Trustee Jim Boos shared that the water level used to be drawn down by four feet every winter so lake residents could do maintenance on their docks, but said it has been several years since that has been done.

Water Authority Attorney Kyle Boose reported that the Lakeside Marina sale closed this month, and that the new owner has started repairs and remodeling.

Tom Ryan of the Parks and Rec Committee reported that they are working with Farnsworth Group on the final recommendation to increase the beach area. Ryan said the circulation in the Bath House seems to have improved and that further updates will begin after Labor Day. The first draft of the Master Plan will be available soon.

Jane Thoele of the Fireworks Committee reported a good turnout for the fireworks, adding that there were more people and boats than the previous year. Thoele said they’re looking into ordering fireworks for next year early due to concerns over the increase in tariffs.
