Unemployment rates were lower in June than one year earlier, both statewide and locally.
Effingham County’s jobless rate was at 2.9% in June, down from an even 4% in June of 2024. Employment gains were seen in Leisure and Hospitality, Professional and Business Services, and in Government.
As far as area counties:
Clay–4.3%, down from 5.3%
Fayette–3.8%, down from 5.1%
Jasper–2.9%, down from 4%
Coles–3.6%, down from 4.7%
Cumberland–2.8%, down from 3.8%
The Illinois unemployment rate for June was 4.5%, down from 5.7% one year earlier.
There were just over 35,000 more people employed in the state in June than in June 2024.
