An Effingham man was placed on two years’ probation on criminal trespass to property. The man had originally been charged with home invasion.
47-year-old Zachary Hilton was arrested following a December 2023 incident in Effingham. Hilton allegedly entered a residence to commit a felony, knowing someone was in the home at the time. Authorities said at the time that Hilton showed up at the home on multiple occasions, and reportedly said he was going to kill one of the occupants.
In May, the residential burglary charge was dismissed. On Monday, Hilton admitted to the criminal trespass to property charge. In addition to the probation, Hilton served close to six months in jail.
