Infrastructure improvements have been approved by the Stewardson-Strasburg Board of Education.
The Board approved Johnson Painting to paint the old bus barn and the batting cages, and approved Effingham Asphalt to oil and chip the east drive and the teacher parking lot. There was also discussion about a roof project.
Board members approved an amended budget for the fiscal year, and decided to hold off on the award of property and liability insurance until next spring.
In what was Justin Deters’ final meeting as Stew-Stras superintendent, there was discussion of district priorities. One priority identified was the extension of sanitary sewer from the school site north to Strasburg. A maintenance barn, work on the air conditioning in the junior high building, and shifting public access to the west entrance rather than entry from the side entrance.
The Board accepted an irrevocable letter of retirement from Sherra Johnson, effective at the end of the 2028-29 school year. Also, the Board rehired their coaches for spring sports except for the high school baseball coaches Harmeier, Hill and Pruemer. The Board also renewed the contract of school psychologist and social worker Christy Elder.
