Governor J-B Pritzker selected a new running mate for the 2026 campaign.
Capitol News Illinois reports former Deputy Governor Christian Mitchell is joining the ticket. Mitchell oversaw energy, infrastructure and public safety during Pritzker’s first term.
Mitchell currently works as vice president of civic engagement at the University of Chicago and served three terms in the Illinois House representing a district on the South Side of Chicago.
Mitchell was also executive director of the Democratic Party of Illinois when Pritzker was first elected in 2018.
Current Lieutenant Governor Juliana Stratton is running for the Democratic nomination for US Senate, seeking to succeed the retiring Dick Durbin in 2026.
