Local St. Rep. Brad Halbrook shared that the state budget passed at the first of the month is bad for Illinoisans, saying the measure includes the largest amount of spending ever and is full of increased taxes.
Halbrook’s presentation to Effingham County elected officials and department heads was hosted by Effingham County Board Chairman Josh Douthit. The appearance followed a marathon session of the General Assembly during which the budget was passed. Halbrook voted against the budget.
Halbrook voiced concerns over the “suspension of the rules” used to gain approval of some measures. He discussed the energy bill, the mascot bill, and the assisted suicide bill, none of which was finalized this session.
