 Three Drowning Deaths in Embarras River Saturday

The bodies of a father and his daughter and son were recovered from the Embarras River, northwest of Ste. Marie Saturday evening.

Jasper County Coroner Jason Meyer said 39-year-old Travis Lee Keebler, 12-year-old Adelyn Re’nee-lee Keebler, and six-year-old Noah Joseph-Edgar Lee Keebler all died while swimming in the river.

Jasper County 911 Dispatch received a call about the incident at approximately 5:10pm Saturday. Jasper County First Responders responded and began searching for the three. The bodies were recovered from the water. Emergency Services cleared the scene at approximately 11:37pm.

Meyer said at one point 40 to 50 individuals were involved in the search. The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office said help was received from Jasper County 911 Dispatch, Crawford County Rescue, Vincennes Township Fire Department, Illinois Department of Natural Resources, Wade Fire Department, Jasper County Ambulance Service, Jasper County EMA, Oblong Fire Department, Crooked Creek Fire Department, Dieterich Fire Department, Greenup Ambulance Service, Jasper County Coroner, Montrose Fire Department, Newton Police Department, and Robinson Fire Department. Appreciation was also expressed to the Ste. Marie Gas Station for providing food and drinks to those involved in the search, and the sheriff’s office expressed gratitude and thanks for everyone who helped, and that their prayers are with the family and friends of the victims.
