The Effingham Zoning Board of Appeals Tuesday reached an agreement on a fence variance.

The variance was sought by Dennis Tieffel for his property at 212 West Douglas Avenue. Tieffel will be allowed to run a 10-foot fence 24 feet from the carport, then five feet of four-foot fence to the edge of the driveway. The last portion can be a solid fence.

The Board granted a rear yard setback variance for Karen Wiercioch for her property at 2307 Lilly Street from 22 feet to 17 feet. Wiercioch plans to construct a covered and enclosed patio.

The Board of Appeals reviewed changes proposed for the city zoning ordinance. More complete guidelines are being sought for signage, particularly billboards. They also discussed regulation of wind and solar energy systems. The City of Effingham Illinois
