Robinson resident Lance Newcomb was sentenced in Cumberland County Court Monday to 30 years in prison in connection with the death of 55-year-old Ryan Waggoner of Lerna.

The 26-year-old Newcomb had been charged with murder in Waggoner’s death in 2023. Waggoner’s remains were located in a rural part of Crawford County. Newcomb, his mother, and one other individual were charged with concealment of a homicidal death.

In court Monday, the murder counts against Newcomb were dismissed, and he pleaded guilty to concealment of a homicidal death as well as a Class X felony count of armed violence. The Class X felony means automatic prison time for a defendant. Newcomb received the 30-year prison term for armed violence as well as a five-year sentence for the concealment of a homicidal death.

Waggoner’s remains were located on June 27, 2023. The remains were positively identified as those of Waggoner on July 6 of that year and Newcomb was charged with murder that same day.
