Improvements continue at the Effingham beach at Lake Sara.
The Effingham Water Authority learned that the air flow circulation in the bath house has been addressed. Parks and Rec Committee Chairman Tom Ryan reported that Lake Sara Forever has a signed contract with Farnsworth Group to continue with an update of the master plan for development of the beach area, including enlarging the beach area.
Ryan also reported on the return of the “Pirate” to the beach and that more than 100 children and parents were on hand for the event. Organizers to make the pirate’s return to the beach an annual event.
Water Authority trustees also heard from lake residents John Jackson and Dan Woods with Jackson asking a ditch being bladed out to improve drainage and both Jackson and Woods asking about a schedule for road improvements. Lake Superintendent Mike Dirks said he waits for the County to make their improvements, then the Water Authority crew does their portion.
Water Authority Attorney Kyle Boose reported that they are reviewing the Sportsman’s Club lease, which has an option to renew. Boose also reported on the sale of Lakeside Marina, stating that paperwork is progressing and that they are waiting on the buyer’s attorney.
Due to changes from the State of Illinois regarding mandates for police training, body cameras and other requirements, the Board has decided to move to security patrol and enforcement of Water Authority ordinances, with IDNR and the County Sheriff’s Office continuing to patrol as in the past.
Also, Jane Thoele of the Fireworks Committee reminded that Lake Sara fireworks will be staged on Thursday, July 3. Trustees voted to donate $1,500 toward the cost of the display.
