Effingham County Board members Monday approved ordinances governing solar energy and wind energy conversion systems.
The measures are designed to govern systems as they arrive to locate in the county.
The Board approved an employee assistance program limited to only employees of the sheriff’s office, 911, county coroner’s office, EMA, the health department, and the probation department.
Board members recognized Sherry Shamhart for 35 years of service to Effingham County…34 of those with the probation department before finishing her service with the public defender’s office.

The Board approved a number of appointments…Johnathon Paholke and Larry Thies to the 911 Board; Michael Tate to the 377 Board; Phillip Toops to the Airport Commission; Dr. Tina Rozene, Karen Hille and Vickie Bushur to the Board of Health; Joseph Thoele, John Beckman and Lyle Westfall to the Farmland Assessment Review Board; and Scott Brumleve as a trustee for the Teutopolis Fire Protection District.
The Board approved use of the Historic Courtyard and Gazebo by FACE on June 19, July 10, August 14, and September 11, and also accepted the Daughters of the American Revolution bench donation for the historic courtyard lawn; and learned that a ribbon cutting ceremony for the courtyard and gazebo will be held at 7:30pm on the 20th.
Board members also approved $1,000 disbursements in hotel/motel funding for Edgewood Fest and for Effingham Noon Rotary fireworks on July 4th, and approved a salary ordinance with an update to the victim witness coordinator’s salary.
Effingham County Sheriff Paul Kuhns shared that medication assistance recovery efforts are underway. The efforts are designed to assistance jail inmates in their delivery from addiction.
Board member Tim Ellis was not present for Monday’s meeting.
