The Eastern Illinois University Board of Trustees Thursday approved a fiber safety loop on campus. The loop will create network, phone and fire alarm backup connections and is designed to maximum campus safety and communication.

The Board approved a preliminary budget and management of reserves for the coming fiscal year. The next fiscal year’s budget requests are sent to the Illinois Board of Higher Education in October; funds are finalized the following May; and typically issued and made available in July.

Board members approved contract extensions for head softball coach Kristi Paulson, who led the Panthers to a 34-20 season and Ohio Valley Conference championship, as well as a second-ever NCAA Tournament appearance in Austin; and for head baseball coach Jason Anderson, who led the Panthers to an overall record of 31-22 and a 2025 OVC regular season title after going 17-7 in conference play. Both coaches’ contracts were extended through June 2030.

Trustee Joyce Madigan was elected as Board Secretary via a secret ballot. The position of Secretary was made vacant after a non-renewal of a membership from the Governor’s Office.

The Board heard updates on Student and Faculty Creativity at the Tarble Arts Center by Department of Art and Design Chair and Professor of Art Dr. Christopher Kahler.
