Altamont city council members wanted to be more competitive in efforts to hire personnel. The Council granted all city workers a 10% wage increase at this week’s meeting.

The area of chief concern was in wages around the minimum or slightly above, but the consensus was that boosting the lower wages and having those not benefiting training those new workers wouldn’t go well, so that led to across-the-board pay hikes.

The Council approved a utility installation agreement with Alvin Schultz. A modular home is being added on the Schultz property. Since the property is outside the city limits, Schultz will pay all engineering fees and infrastructure costs.

Council members also accepted a municipal code codification proposal from Illinois Codification Services of Freeburg for $7,800.

The Council also learned that the restroom rebuild in Schmidt Park is moving ahead.
