Altamont school board members Monday passed a resolution for financing improvements at both the grade school and high school buildings.

The resolution authorizes the issue of general obligation debt certificates not to exceed $4.25 million. The funds would provide for more space at Altamont Grade School and for improving the parking lots at Altamont Community High School. Altamont Superintendent Casey Adam reported on efforts by the school district to work with the City of Altamont on a plan for improving the drainage and resurfacing the parking lot at the high school.

Also, the school board accepted a letter of intent to retire from high school principal Peggy Bueker, effective at the end of the 2027-2028 school year. Also accepted was the resignation of Alan Whitt as maintenance director for the district and as high school baseball coach, effective August 15.

The Board accepted resignations from Lily Russell as high school Social Studies teacher and from Jordan Leihser as junior high Literature teacher and as high school soccer coach. These individuals were hired…Tracey Robison as custodian, Sarah Probst as junior high girls track coach, Tim Miller as junior high head baseball coach, Clayton Arnold as junior high assistant baseball coach, and Josie Tedrick as junior high cheer coach. The Board also approved Kaleb Hankins as junior high baseball volunteer coach.

Also Monday, the Altamont board heard from three students from the PE program at the grade school on the Olympic Laps program. Students in grades 1-8 did 3,374 laps on Olympic Lap days, with the top three students each completing over 20 miles.

The Board withdrew from the Egyptian Trust for employee health insurance, and approved a proposal to join the Prairie Health Insurance Consortium; agreed to renew the bid for commercial insurance; approved an IESA cooperative agreement with Altamont Lutheran Interparish School for cross country, with ALIS as the host school; awarded the fuel bid for the coming year to The Equity; awarded the bank bid to People’s Bank and Trust; and approved a leave for a district employee.
