BY SUSAN OLIVER, REGENT ANN CROOKER ST. CLAIR CHAPTER D-A-R
The Ann Crooker St. Clair Chapter, NSDAR only recently started giving this award. The award was designed by the chapter’s Executive Board to honor local citizens who go above and beyond in the selflessness to display patriotism and the American spirit.
Scout Troop 335 has been a part of these services since this Memorial Day service began in 2019. When the chapter was forming this idea, they realized the cemetery board and themselves would need assistance. The Scoutmaster at the time was more than willing to come clean up the cemetery in preparation for the service and then return the next week to present colors. We have worked with various Scoutmasters since then, all very willing to assist our chapter. This troop has helped clean and pick up at the cemetery, put flags on veteran’s graves, hung banners, and present colors at the service so we could honor these fallen heroes. One of their scouts did an Eagle project here, putting in the flagpole and leading his fellow scouts in cleaning veteran’s stones.
Our service would not be successful without their display of patriotism and love of country. Our chapter was proud to present this award in appreciation for their service.
