Effingham County’s unemployment rate for April was 2.5%. That’s compared to 3.6% in April of 2024.
Total nonfarm employment decreased by 375 jobs from a year earlier. Employment gains were posted in Leisure-Hospitality and Government.
Here are the jobless numbers from area counties:
Clay–3.6%, down from 5%
Fayette–3.5%, down from 4.6%
Jasper–2.5%, down from 3.8%
Coles–2.8%, down from 3.4%
Cumberland–2.5%, down from 3.3%
Shelby–2.9%, down from 3.8%
The statewide jobless rate for Illinois in April was 4.5%, slightly better than 4.6% one year earlier.
